"After every session with you (either at night or the following day), I come home and experience a wonderful freedom in my singing - a breaking of boundaries (boundaries caused by limited thinking, among other things). I used to feel I had a puny, weak voice with little possibility. Now, as I watch it expand in quality and power, I am becoming comfortable and starting to love my sound. My voice is getting clearer, more resonant, and more powerful. This, for me, is huge. I am greatly benefiting from the breathing technique you taught me, which allows me to sustain notes better and longer, and with greater control. I am also finding more subtlety and style - a sweet process.
Because I am now able to sing higher notes, I no longer have to use a tuned down guitar for certain songs that were previously out of my range. Songs like Del Shannon's RUNAWAY and George Harrison's I ME MINE - which require a falsetto.
Finally, I have learned that there is a world of difference between singing a lovely song to people versus actually taking command of a room and moving that audience through direct energetic contact. I have made a lot of progress so far in my coaching with Joe. Hitting higher notes has become easier along with breath control. Mostly, it’s more confidence I’ve gained.
I feel better about playing for any amount of people…. Now, I take any chance I can to get myself out there. I’ve also come a long way in being more comfortable talking on stage. Before, I’ve never ever knew what to say and if I did say something while I was performing, I always thought it sounded silly. Now, I realize that it is part of a great performance and now I have more ideas on what to say.
